CBS Invests In Second Life Content Creator

CBS announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with The Electric Sheep Company as part of its plans to increase its presence on Second Life and other online virtual worlds.

CBS plans to increase its presence by investing in virtual world content developer Electric Sheep Co., in a $7 million round of financing, which includes existing investors Gladwyne Partners.

Interest in tapping virtual worlds have surged as Corporate are vying with each other to garner eyeballs among audiences who are spending more of their leisure surfing the internet.

This partnership between CBS and the Electric Sheep has worked together on several multimedia projects earlier.
“The partnership follows several successful collaborations between the companies. The Electric Sheep Company launched CBS-owned Showtime Network’s ‘The L-Word in Second Life’, providing a forum for L-Word fans to interact with each other and cast members. The Electric Sheep Company also produced a machinima promotion for CBS’ Two and Half Men TV series, filmed in Second Life, which aired in a Super Bowl XLI pre-game spot earlier this month."
