Great Brightness points us to an article from NY Times, which reports that an increasing number of organisations are becoming wary of the cost of having a diabetic in their work force and are actively eradicating them from their workforce.
There are two reasons. One is the cost of burden of having a diabetic in the workforce. It is a burden more than five times that of workers without diabetes. The second reason is that companies cite workplace safety and feel a diabetic can endanger the safety of the workplace.
Many discrimination suits are pending judgments. However, with some courts ruling that diabetes is not a disability its hard uphill climb for the diabetics.
